TRUCKING INDUSTRY
"America needs more truck drivers.
The trucking industry is facing a growing shortage of drivers that is pushing some retailers to delay nonessential shipments or pay high prices to get their goods delivered on time." NPR Jan 9 2018

With over 70 percent of wholesale and retail goods being moved by the trucking industry the shortage of drivers is starting to have an effect on every industry. This shortage has already effected the awning industry with higher freight prices this past winter, and delays in transit times.

It is at this point that our industry needs to carefully look at the transit times - actual not projected. The freight carriers are still quoting transit times as if there are no shortages and freight is running smoothly, however in reality its the actual time that we must concern ourselves with.

Supply Bright has noted during the past few months that the actual transit times for freight delivery on LTL has at times extended by average of 2 days. And we ask that everyone understand where and why shipping delays are occurring.

"For example, in 2003, the ratio was seven trucks to every one load. Today, it’s seven loads to every one truck. Essentially, there are too many loads with not enough trucks available to transport them." LogisticsDynamics Nov 2017
